Kelsey & Stephen | A Beautiful Fall Wedding at Willow Creek Glass Chapel

There are some wedding days where you can tell almost immediately that the couple is simply so excited to be married.

Kelsey and Stephen's wedding day at Willow Creek Glass Chapel in Shelby, Iowa was one of those days.

From the moment the day began, there was so much genuine excitement and emotion surrounding these two. And while Willow Creek provided an absolutely gorgeous setting, it was the candid moments, little details, and the personalities of Kelsey and Stephen that made this wedding especially memorable.

The Details Tell Part of the Story

One of my favorite things about wedding photography is that the details aren't just pretty things to photograph—they help tell the story of the day.

Kelsey's shoes, rings, flowers, dress, jewelry and all of those little pieces she carefully chose become part of the visual record of her wedding day.

And Willow Creek gave us so many beautiful places to photograph them.

The glass chapel itself is such a unique backdrop, with its soaring ceilings and wall of glass bringing the surrounding Iowa landscape right into the ceremony space.

But even with such a beautiful venue, it's the people and the moments that I remember most.

A Fall Wedding Full of Color

The venue has pretty scenery everywhere, tall trees, wildflowers, butterflies - creating the perfect backdrop for portraits throughout the Willow Creek property. I especially loved the way the different bridesmaid dress colors worked together. Rather than everyone wearing the exact same shade, the mix of colors added so much dimension and personality to the wedding party portraits.

And then there was Kelsey's bouquet.

The warm autumn tones, pops of color, greenery, and beautiful floral details were absolutely gorgeous and fit the season perfectly. From the bouquet to the boutonniere to the smallest wedding-day details, so much thought went into making this day feel personal.

A Bride & Groom Who Were Truly Excited to Be Married

Kelsey and Stephen were two of the nicest people, and you could genuinely see how excited they were throughout the entire day.

There were emotional moments.

There were plenty of smiles.

There were quiet little interactions between the two of them.

And then there were all of those candid moments happening around them—the moments that weren't necessarily on the timeline but are exactly what help a wedding gallery feel like a complete story.

I always want my couples to have beautiful portraits, but I also want them to be able to look through their gallery years from now and remember the atmosphere of the day—the excitement, the nerves, the laughter, and the people who were there celebrating with them.

And Then… She Cut Her Hair!

And because every wedding day needs at least one unexpected moment...

Kelsey got a haircut after the ceremony!

It's one of those details that makes me smile because it was so completely her. Weddings don't have to follow a perfectly predictable script from beginning to end. Sometimes the unexpected moments become some of the most memorable parts of the day.

And yes, of course we photographed it!

The Candid Moments Are Some of My Favorites

There are plenty of photographs on a wedding day that are carefully planned.

The family portraits.

The wedding party.

The bride and groom portraits.

The details.

The ceremony.

But some of my favorite images happen in between all of those things.

A quick laugh.

A nervous smile.

A look between the bride and groom.

Friends and family interacting when they don't realize I'm photographing them.

Those little expressions that happen for half a second.

Those are the photographs that can bring you right back to your wedding day.

That's why I photograph both the beautifully planned portraits and the completely unscripted moments.

A Beautiful Wedding Day at Willow Creek

Willow Creek Glass Chapel is such a beautiful setting for a fall Iowa wedding. The combination of the glass chapel, rolling landscape, outdoor spaces, and surrounding seasonal color creates so many opportunities for variety throughout a wedding gallery. The venue is located just outside Shelby, Iowa and serves couples throughout the Omaha and Council Bluffs area as well.

But ultimately, a wedding venue is just the backdrop.

The real story is the people.

And Kelsey and Stephen's wedding day was full of wonderful people, beautiful details, genuine emotion, and two people who were clearly thrilled to finally say, "We're married!"

I'm so thankful I got to be there to document it all.
