A Small Wedding with Big Priorities

Not every wedding needs to be big to be incredibly meaningful.

For Kyra and Scott, their wedding day was intentionally intimate—a small, private ceremony surrounded by the people closest to them, followed by a larger reception brunch the next morning.

But one thing they knew they didn't want to compromise on?

Their photography.

Even with a smaller-scale wedding, having beautiful photographs of their day—and especially beautiful portraits of the two of them—was a priority.

And I absolutely loved that.

A micro wedding can be simple, intimate, and low-key while still putting a major emphasis on photography. In fact, having fewer moving pieces often gives us more opportunity to slow down, be intentional, and create incredible portraits together.

That was exactly the approach we took with Kyra and Scott.

A Wedding That Felt Completely Like Them

One of my favorite things about this wedding was how personal every detail felt.

Kyra wore a vintage wedding dress from the 1970s that she found and thrifted online, giving her bridal look a completely unique feel.

She also created her own bouquet using Sola wood flowers that she dyed herself, adding another personal and handmade element to the day.

Even their rings were unique to them, with both rings custom made through Etsy.

Nothing felt overly traditional just for the sake of being traditional. Instead, their wedding was built around what mattered to them—and that made the entire celebration feel incredibly personal.

Prioritizing Their Bride & Groom Portraits

One of the biggest priorities for Kyra and Scott was making sure they had plenty of beautiful photographs of the two of them.

And yes, it was hot.

Very hot.

But that wasn't going to stop us from making their portraits a major part of the day.

Rather than simply taking a few quick bride and groom photos and moving on, we intentionally made time for their portraits and used professional off-camera lighting to create images that really made them pop.

My assistant helped hold a softbox outside while I photographed them, allowing us to control the light even in the middle of a hot day.

The result was the kind of portrait experience I love creating for my couples—intentional, flattering, dramatic when we want it to be, and focused completely on the two of them.

Because when the wedding day is over, these are the photographs that become part of the story you keep coming back to.

Family Portraits Still Matter

Even with an intimate wedding, family portraits were important to Kyra and Scott.

Their smaller ceremony meant that we could photograph the people who were there without trying to rush through an enormous formal portrait list.

We made sure they had those classic family photographs documenting the people who shared this milestone with them, while still keeping the day intimate and relaxed.

A smaller guest list doesn't mean those photographs are any less important.

If anything, when your wedding is intentionally small, the people who are there often become an even bigger part of the story.

Then We Did It All Again the Next Morning

The celebration didn't end with the ceremony.

The following morning, we reunited with Kyra and Scott for their intimate reception brunch with family and friends.

The feel was completely different from the portraits of their wedding day.

Instead of focusing heavily on posed photographs, we shifted our attention toward the little moments—conversation, laughter, hugs, family interactions, and candid moments with their guests.

Those photographs tell a different part of their wedding story.

The quiet moments.

The people who came to celebrate them.

The laughter around the table.

The hugs and conversations that happen naturally when everyone is gathered together.

Together, the two days created a complete story of their wedding—from the intimate ceremony and intentional portraits to the relaxed brunch celebration the following morning.

You Don't Need a Big Wedding to Have Big Wedding Photos

One of the things I hope couples take away from Kyra and Scott's wedding is this:

The size of your wedding doesn't determine the quality of your photography.

You can have a courthouse wedding.

A backyard ceremony.

A micro wedding with your closest family.

A private ceremony followed by a brunch.

Or a full-scale celebration with hundreds of guests.

Whatever your wedding looks like, you can still prioritize beautiful, meaningful photographs.

And if portraits of the two of you are important, we can make time for them.

We can plan your timeline around them, find the best locations, use professional lighting when needed, and create images that feel worthy of being displayed—not simply images that document that you were there.

Kyra and Scott's wedding was proof that intimate doesn't have to mean ordinary.

It can be intentional.

It can be personal.

And it can still include incredible wedding photography.
